Tsavo National Park Activities

Tsvao National Park stretches over 8,494 square miles and is made up of two separate parks, Tsavo East National Park and Tsavo West National Park making it one of Kenya’s largest wildlife reserves as well as one of the oldest. Tsavo West is a beautiful, rugged wilderness comprising open grasslands, scrublands, and Acacia woodlands, belts of riverine vegetation and rocky ridges including the Poacher's Lookout where visitors can see the teeming herds in the plains below. The slightly larger Tsavo East is generally flat, with dry plains across which the Galana River flows. Other features include the Yatta Plateau and Lugard Falls. Tsavo is dominated by large populations of striking red elephants, red from the sand they dust themselves with for protection. The park is also home to the rest of the Big 5 (rhino, lion, leopard and buffalo) as well as many other wildlife, diverse plant and bird species. Less populated than other game areas in Kenya, it is the perfect place for visitors to enjoy a pristine wildlife experience. Spot a variety of wildlife in the early morning or late afternoon on a game drive. Take in some of the world’s most spectacular natural scenery with a rich slice of local history and culture on a walking safari. A strong and fearless tribe with a thriving culture that is passed down from generation to generation, the Maasai will share their way of life, rich culture and traditions in cultural experience. Visit the Shetani Lava Flow and Mzima Springs - over 200 years ago, fiery magma erupted from the nearby Chyulu Hills leaving a vast expanse of folded black lava. Mzima is a beautiful oasis of natural springs fed by four natural subterranean streams that rise on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. The springs are resident to hippos, Nile crocodiles and various birdlife making it a great place to observe the resident wildlife. Note activities may vary between lodge accommodation and concessions.
