Cape Point
Cape Point is a spectacular, narrow finger of land, covered in endemic fynbos and home to picturesque bays, beaches, rolling green hills and valleys. Cape Point falls within the Cape Floral Region, a World Heritage Site, and is the most southerly point within the Good Hope section of Table Mountain National Park. Fynbos, meaning “fine bush”, is a unique and strikingly beautiful group of flora endemic to a small section of the Western Cape of South Africa.
Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens
The beautiful Kirstenbosch gardens cover an area of 528 hectares with 36 hectares of cultivated garden. The gardens are a celebration of South African flora - showcasing only indigenous South African plants. Fynbos, proteas, cycads and rolling lawns are intermingled with streams and ponds and well-laid out pathways for easy walking.
Robben Island
The famous Robben Island, whose prison was once home to former South African president Nelson Mandela as well as many other black political freedom fighters, is now a World Heritage Site and provides stunning views across the bay with Table Mountain as its backdrop. A trip to the island is an unforgettable experience and offers a glimpse into the life and times of the apartheid era.
Shark Cage Diving & Photographic Marine Seafaris
South Africa has a wealth of shark viewing and diving opportunities and top of the list is the Great White Shark encounters one can experience. It is believed that there are less than 5,000 Great White Sharks left on the planet, and recent estimates suggest that 2,000 of these are to be found in South African waters. The water is cold, but it's well worth the experience. Amateurs can participate in diving courses - these can be arranged from a variety of surf and dive shops around the city. One&Only Cape Town’s preferred partner Apex Shark Expeditions, headed by Great White Shark expert, author and wildlife photographer Chris Fallows offers a variety of excursions. For those more pressed for time, the Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront also offers shark cage diving. This is not for the faint-hearted!
