A suite inspired by the early settlement of a vibrant new colony. This part of the hotel was the original home of Jam Factory founders George and Margaret Peacock, and later Sir Henry Jones’ residence. The 1823 terrace is now the oldest standing building on ‘Old Wharf’ and houses Tasmania’s earliest Spiral Staircase. An abundance of contemporary Tasmanian art relating to the settlement years and as setting of great historical value, allow you to indulge in the culture of an era long past. Relax in a very private and totally serene setting, with two bedrooms, a sitting room and kitchenette housed over two floors.
The added decadence of an overflowing Kohler SOK bath within this suite ensures a truly unique experience. Once a view of the original landing point of the first settlers and the early wheelings and dealings of the new colony your suite now captures a grand view of Sullivan’s Cove – the arriving fishing trawlers and the unloading of their catch of the day framed by the magnificent backdrop of Mount Wellington.
H. Jones SuiteRebuilt on the early 1900’s in an art noveau style, the administration offices of H Jones & Co. IXL jams retain the spoils of a thriving and exciting time in Tasmania’s history. The main staircase makes for a spectacular entrance to this area of the hotel, which features soaring Tasmanian Blackwood ceilings and original skylights allowing for the maximum of natural light to enter the space.
Once you enter the H. Jones Suite, you will feel the allure of the past. The high pressured dealings of a multi-national company are no longer conducted in this original boardroom, allowing you to watch the comings and goings of the still operational fisherman’s wharf, bordered by the spectacular view of Mount Wellington. Relax on your king size bed, or for a truly calming experience, make use of the Kohler SOK overflowing spa bath. The walls of the H. Jones Suite provide the perfect setting to showcase works from Tasmania’s leading contemporary artists, allowing you to experience through another medium, the rich and colorful history of the early colony.
