Henry Jones Art Hotel

The Henry Jones Art Hotel is located on Hobart’s waterfront and is Australia’s first dedicated art hotel. The site in which it is located dates back to 1804 and the former jam factory has been transformed into an enthralling first class hotel designed by award-winning architects, Morris-Nunn & Associates.
 
The hotel is furnished with over 300 artworks and presents an environment in which people can experience art in a new and more immediate way.
With a continuously changing exhibition, the hotel has been created to present itself as a fusion of art, heritage, tradition and nature. Exterior and interior space present art as part of the Hotel’s function & beauty.
 
The hotel houses 56 rooms and suites all uniquely different and furnished with the hotel’s history and contemporary art as the forefront of each space. The restaurants and bars highlight the best of Tasmania’s fine food and beverage produce for a truly unique experience. The Henry Jones Art Hotel opened in 2004 and was purchased by Pure Tasmania in 2007. The hotel has won a number of awards for design, accommodation, food & beverage and service since opening its doors and aims to provide all guests with a truly unique experience.

Room Information

Peacock Terrace
A suite inspired by the early settlement of a vibrant new colony. This part of the hotel was the original home of Jam Factory founders George and Margaret Peacock, and later Sir Henry Jones’ residence. The 1823 terrace is now the oldest standing building on ‘Old Wharf’ and houses Tasmania’s earliest Spiral Staircase. An abundance of contemporary Tasmanian art relating to the settlement years and as setting of great historical value, allow you to indulge in the culture of an era long past. Relax in a very private and totally serene setting, with two bedrooms, a sitting room and kitchenette housed over two floors.

The added decadence of an overflowing Kohler SOK bath within this suite ensures a truly unique experience. Once a view of the original landing point of the first settlers and the early wheelings and dealings of the new colony your suite now captures a grand view of Sullivan’s Cove – the arriving fishing trawlers and the unloading of their catch of the day framed by the magnificent backdrop of Mount Wellington.

H. Jones Suite
Rebuilt on the early 1900’s in an art noveau style, the administration offices of H Jones & Co. IXL jams retain the spoils of a thriving and exciting time in Tasmania’s history. The main staircase makes for a spectacular entrance to this area of the hotel, which features soaring Tasmanian Blackwood ceilings and original skylights allowing for the maximum of natural light to enter the space.

Once you enter the H. Jones Suite, you will feel the allure of the past. The high pressured dealings of a multi-national company are no longer conducted in this original boardroom, allowing you to watch the comings and goings of the still operational fisherman’s wharf, bordered by the spectacular view of Mount Wellington. Relax on your king size bed, or for a truly calming experience, make use of the Kohler SOK overflowing spa bath. The walls of the H. Jones Suite provide the perfect setting to showcase works from Tasmania’s leading contemporary artists, allowing you to experience through another medium, the rich and colorful history of the early colony.

Oriental Suites
These Suites have a distinctly Japanese feel. It soon becomes apparent to you that these Suites have something very special – here traditional Japanese harmony has been subtly created & crafted between its many details, elements, fabrics and furnishings. The Oriental Suites, occupy part of the original Henry Jones Ice House –thankfully, these days things are a lot warmer.
The view from these very spacious suites commands close views of the harbor or Mount Wellington. With European style stainless steel and translucent glass bathrooms the rooms center piece is a Kohler SOK Overflowing Spa.

Deluxe Spa Harbour View Rooms
The Deluxe Spa Harbour View Rooms overlook the stunning harbor front of Hobart framed by the cityscape and Mount Wellington. These rooms feature original walls of stone and timber trusses, columns and beams that soar upwards to just beneath the roofline.  With European style, stainless steel and translucent glass bathrooms these rooms include a Kohler elliptical spa for total relaxation.

Deluxe Spa Room
The Deluxe Spa Rooms overlook either the stunning glass atrium or have views of the site's former history. Superior Harbour View Rooms
The Superior Harbour View Rooms overlook the working harbor which is superbly framed by Hobart city and Mount Wellington. These rooms feature a balcony and offer superb ultra-modern, translucent all-glass bathrooms with special lighting effects and feature a Kohler elliptical bath for total rejuvenation and relaxation.

Standard Harbour View Rooms overlook the working harbor, capturing the city and Mount Wellington. Most have superb ultra-modern, all-glass translucent bathrooms featuring a spacious shower. Some have original walls of stone and timber trusses, columns and beams that soar upwards to just beneath the roofline, while others feature the original Blackwood panelling of the former administration offices of the old jam factory.

Standard Rooms
Standard Rooms feature stunning views of either the hotel's glass atrium or the sites former history. Each room has a superb ultra-modern, all-glass translucent bathroom, featuring a spacious shower.
