Things To Do
This is a destination for nature lovers and active travelers.
Twice daily complementary guided activities celebrate New Zealand natural history and introduce guests to the rich traditions of high country sheep farming.
Nature activities focus on wildlife, forests ecology and involvement in the properties' ongoing conservation projects. On complimentary Sheep Farm Discovery trips, guests can join a real farm guide to watch sheepdogs work, see sheep shearing and learn about growing super-fine merino wool (every second afternoon).
Longer half and full day activities are available at an additional charge. Join naturalist guides to hike alpine trails, kayak mountain lakes, search for rare wildlife and hear the stories that bring this landscape to life.
A 20-mile network of walking trails on the Wilderness Lodge property complements the guided activities. Guests are invited to explore these walks and discover for themselves an area named by the first Maori visitors, "Te Ko Awa a Aniwaniwa", the Valley of the Mother of the Rainbows.
